And some more history.....
My love for baking began when I was a little girl. I'd sit with my mom in the kitchen and chat while she did her thing. Sometimes, I'd help, too! We had a cherry tree in our yard, and one year, we picked all the cherries before the birds could get to them. Then, we pitted them, and Mom made the best cherry pie you'd ever taste, though her pièce de résistance is her delectable apple pie. I didn't pick up her pie-making skills but took an interest in cake decorating instead and when Hannah turned two I made my first cake. The Elmo cake (see pic below) was a hit and my journey as a cake maker began.
After a while, I decided to make everything from scratch instead of using a cake mix. Don't get me wrong—I grew up on Duncan Hines chocolate cake, and it is delicious. However, after looking at the food label on the box, I realized there were a lot of additives and unnecessary ingredients. It was difficult learning the science behind baking, but after many tweaks, we developed recipes that tasted even better than that trusty cake mix I loved so much.
Hannah grew and throughout the years she became more interested in baking. By age eight, she had come up with the dream to open her own cupcake business. She even had a name for it, Cupcake Town. That year for Christmas we had a graphic artist friend make a logo for her. We thought it was cute but didn't think much about it after that until 2020 when we were all stuck at home due to the pandemic. We'd been making desserts for baby/wedding showers and different parties so our "customer" base was growing. We decided to make it legit and build a licensed and inspected bakery on the lower level of our home. In August of 2020, we launched Cupcake Town Bakery!
Hannah is now an adult and soon to be leaving us to start her life, which is a very bittersweet time for me. I still enjoy baking even though I'm a one-band man now. Someday, I hope to bring her back into the kitchen with me or convince one of my other three children to join the ride.
